How lucky are we? Let's stop complaining for just a little while and rest our attention, instead, on how lucky we are.
It's a sunny indian-summer day and a friend is helping me get my garden finally into some semblance of shape. It's a relief and a joy. I spent the morning teaching children in the dharma center and several dozen people practiced downstairs. We shared a harvest lunch.
I could go on and on and on. There really is nothing to complain about. Life is sweet and full. I have been thinking lately how for most people I know, this would--could--be the experience. It depends on where you rest your attention. This is not true for everyone, of course. But the bulk of the people I know are reasonably healthy. All but one has a place to live. Their families have not disowned them; or if they have, it was good news and a relief. Many have discovered a spiritual path, and a teacher.
Sometimes the luxury of a minute focus on our problems leads us to believe we are miserable. Maybe we should take off our glasses and squint a little. From there, it looks worthy of gratitide.
Peter, wow.

I'm lucky enough to have 20/800 vision. Gratitude is quite accessible!
